Pucko's 60th Birthday Bash w/ The Outliers, Les Poetes Pop & Laura Panic
PUCKO’s 60th birthday bash with The Outliers, Les Poetes Pop, Laura Panic and guest MCs.
All are welcome to celebrate the 60th birthday of Newcastle alternative music stalwart Richard ‘Pucko’ Puxty at the Stag and Hunter Hotel Mayfield on 25th October 2024. Pucko has played in countless alt-rock n roll, ska and roots music bands since the 80s and was a founding member of The Porkers and Headbin. He’s also well known for helping to cultivate the early indie music scene at the old Lass O Gowrie with ‘The Pucko and Andy show’ and as a party and community radio DJ, not to mention as an avid cricketer! There will be a chance in between band sets for friends to get up and share their Pucko love-anecdotes! MCs start the ball rolling at 730pm sharp and bands kick off 815pm.
Pucko’s 60th bash line up:
It's The Outliers first gig in half a year and it could be as long again before the next show, so don't miss your chance to see this special amalgam of band members from other local cult like acts such as Australian Beefweek Show, The Porkers, Huntress, One Flew Over and Klub Kongo. Inhabiting a sonic twilight zone that traverses space-like rockabilly to post punk-garage and swampy blues-jazz, they without fail musically arouse, if not carouse you. The band also includes front and centre, the one and only birthday crooner himself, Mr Richard, Pucko’ Puxty!
Les Poètes Pop surfaced above COVID19 and formed by an accidental meeting in a dive bar in Newcastle, Australia. Poetry and music blending together with haunting melodies and the occasional chaos. A mix of twisted lyrics and harmonies, crashing cymbals, rollicking yet pounding basslines, and layered with angular guitars that mutate their songs with jaded elegance, if not incendiary sonic melee; there’s an intensity to this band, that you’ll find is unlike any other in Newcastle! 2023 saw Les Poètes Pop share the stage with Mudhoney, The New Christs, Cable Ties (The Gum Ball, Dashville) and with Grinspoon, Polish Club, Dune Rats, The Smith Street Band, Press Club and British India (Cambridge Farewell Festival). With a new single on the horizon to be produced by Chit Chat Von Loopin Stab (Machine Gun Fellatio), they are looking forward to a bigger, meaner 2024-2025.
Laurapanic is a NoWave/Heavy Noise Rock band that deliver their own highly unique brand of fuzz and primalism . Not long into their evolution, they have already toured the East coast circuit with bands such as Magic Dirt, Def FX and the Hard Ons. Frenetic beats, hypnotic bass and a queen of catharsis channelling pure instinct via vox and visceral guitar guaranteed!
